10th of October books

The Herodoteans Book Sale will be taking place next Monday (the 10th) from 12 to 4 pm, which is the perfect opportunity for you to buy some of the books you will need this year for a cheap price. We cannot guarantee how many or which books will be for sale, as that naturally all depends on the people bringing them in, but each year we have more books than actually get sold so do come and have a look!

To sell a book simply write your name and the price you want for it on the inside and drop it off at the Faculty Library desk. Money you earn by selling books will be sent to you via UMS for small amounts or can be collected from us in the Faculty for large amounts. The books that did not get sold will be returned to the Faculty desk for you to pick up.

All books have to be brought to the Faculty Libary Desk by Saturday the 8th!

If any questions should arise, do not hesitate to contact me on rpjed2@cam.ac.uk. Please note that the Faculty Library desk is just a drop-off point and they will NOT be able to answer any question you might have regarding the book sale. Do bring in any books you no longer need as it benefits both the years below you as yourself!

11th of October

books Simon Goldhill will be signing his new book "Victorian Culture and Classical Antiquity: Art, Opera, Fiction, and the Proclamation of Modernity" in the Heffers Bookstore this Tuesday 11th of October.

"Looking at Victorian art, Goldhill demonstrates how desire and sexuality, particularly anxieties about male desire, were represented and communicated through classical imagery. Probing into operas of the period, Goldhill addresses ideas of citizenship, nationalism, and cultural politics. And through fiction--specifically nineteenth-century novels about the Roman Empire--he discusses religion and the fierce battles over the church as Christianity began to lose dominance over the progressive stance of Victorian science and investigation. Rediscovering some great forgotten works and reframing some more familiar ones, the book offers extraordinary insights into how the Victorian sense of antiquity and our sense of the Victorians came into being."
